OhSevenDays: An Honest Review

Welcome to our Brand Spotlight Series. This series is focused on diving into up-and-coming sustainable brands in the fashion industry. In this article, we’re looking at OhSevenDays, an Istanbul-based slow fashion brand that prides itself on its circular fashion practices.

Origins of OhSevenDays

OhSevenDays was created by Megan Mummery in July 2015. In 2008, Megan received her Bachelor of Mass Communications at Queensland University of Technology, and in 2012 furthered her education at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London. And a few years later, while on a trip to Turkey, she discovered a small district in Istanbul that sold leftover fabric rolls from large garment manufacturers.

In an attempt to stop discarded fabric rolls from going to the landfill, the idea to start a clothing brand that uses leftover fabric to create new pieces was born. Today, the brand focuses on making small-batch collections under ethical work conditions from sustainably-sourced materials.

OhSevenDays Ready-to-Wear Review
It doesn’t take long to scour OhSevenDay’s website to find pieces that match the variety of trends we are wearing today. However, while there is diversity in the style options, the same can’t be said for their size range. Their ready-to-wear range goes from XS to XL, with the largest waistband on pants being a mere 31.4 inches. This is many inches smaller than the average waist of a woman in the U.S. To offset this, OhSevenDay offers custom clothing ordering options at no extra cost, but it requires an extended waiting period.

A  common issue for sustainable clothing brands is the lack of unique garments due to the materials used in production. Commonly we shop for sustainable brands and it’s an array of basics like the plain cotton t-shirt or straight-leg jeans, making it near impossible to express one’s individuality.

However, OhSevenDays goes above and beyond by offering a variety of timeless pieces for any niche. And to remain true to their sustainability principles, they upload new pieces infrequently. Every new item launched is also set to stay on the website until the material is out of stock.

Many items on the website are from previous collections and are still being offered today due to their practice of only selling items out when out of fabric. Here are some of the most popular pieces from their social media:

Final Take on OhSevenDays
OhSevenDays excels in many areas, such as providing a variety of stylish choices. In terms of price, they still fall within an above-average price range like many other sustainable brands, though this is often expected when compensating workers fairly and sourcing material ethically. Good On You, a prominent and globally recognized ethical fashion directory, rated this brand as ‘Good On You’ meaning it met all their criteria. With their transparent manufacturing practices and classic styles, it’s understandable why this brand is so well-rated. We recommend this brand if you are ever in need of ethically made, sustainable pieces and still want a more youthful diversity in clothing items.
